Part 2 · lesson 1 of 3
You find out what the smallest move on your screen costs you.
About 5 minutes.
Whose numbers these are
You have not picked a firm yet. So the figures below come from one firm’s published rules. Each one is named and dated where it appears. Pick a firm and the same lesson runs on your own numbers.
tick
The smallest step a price can move. Every market has its own tick, and each one is worth a fixed amount of money.
This is the unit everything else is built from. What a trade costs you is a number of these, times what one is worth, times how many you held. This one comes back: What is a tick, and does its value change during the day?
Work the numbers for your own account
On MES one tick is $1.25, so 12 ticks is $15 per contract. A micro is one-tenth the size of a mini: the same 12 ticks on ES is $150.
